Island Farm Open House

Kick off Mother’s Day weekend in style, at Island Farm’s Open House! On Saturday, May 9, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., the Farm will open its doors for a day full of 19th-century activities, tours, crafts, and more! The regular $11 admission fee is waived for this event; all visitors may enter the site free of charge. Throughout the day, there will be opportunities to interact with our banker ponies, as well as other heritage breeds of livestock. The forge will be hot in the blacksmith shop, where visitors will be invited to interact and forge their own mini-swords. The homeplace will be open for self-guided tours, while the cookhouse hearth will be going, offering a glimpse into antebellum cooking, as well as the entire process used to harvest, process, and make yaupon tea. There is plenty of space for families to bring and enjoy a picnic lunch. A great beginning for Mother’s Day Weekend!
Island Farm is a living history farm located on the north end of Roanoke Island; it offers a trip back in time to the 1850’s along the Outer Banks through hands-on activities, historic building tours, demonstrations, working livestock, and more. Open Tuesday through Saturday, the living history farm offers live interpretation, daily mini-programs and special weekend events. The farmstead is located at 1140 N US Highway 64, north of Manteo, on Roanoke Island. To learn more, visit www.obcinc.org or call 252-473-6500.
