Juneteenth Celebration
Join the Pea Island Preservation Society for the sixth annual Juneteenth celebration, Sounds of Freedom, at the Pea Island Cookhouse Museum in Manteo. This free outdoor event honors the spirit of freedom through music, history, and community.
Enjoy performances by acclaimed opera singer Tshombe Selby, special guests K-Soul from Hampton, Virginia, and The Mack Jazz Band, featuring talented local student musicians. The evening will also include a presentation by U.S. Colored Troops reenactor Edward Gantt, paying tribute to the men of the region, including Richard Etheridge, who served in the fight for freedom during the Civil War.
Held at the museum dedicated to Etheridge and the Pea Island Lifesavers, this meaningful Juneteenth celebration offers an opportunity to reflect on local African American history while enjoying an evening of inspiring music and fellowship. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.
